fortune cookie wisdom

I just want to say thank you to all who left me
such warm and loving comments over the past few days.
The support I have experienced, for both what I do
and what I am experiencing, has touched me more deeply than you can know.

I am grateful to know that by sharing what I do
others experience inspiration -
I know that it heals me, but to think it reaches beyond
what often feels like a selfish practice,
and others find healing in my practice
is humbling.
Then I remember -

and we are each interconnected
with one another. When you heal, I heal;
when you suffer, I suffer;
what I create comes from you,
what you respond to, comes from me.
I do believe in the Oneness, and that is why
I keep doing what I do, and sharing it all with you.

The cookie fortune above, which inspired this piece,
is tucked within the tea bag tag,
glued in the upper left corner of this image...

For now,
I'm working in this 11½" x 9½" hand bound book I made
a couple years ago. It's got a mish mash of things within it's pages.

You can see the past two images are here,
head to head.

I am creating on another new journal which I'll share in a few days.
I liked Jasmine's suggestion of doing a mandala dedicated journal,
which I haven't done for several years.
More an more the appeal of having several journals going,
each with their own focus, is feeling good to me!

  1. Beautiful piece. The new big size must feel very different, but probably freeing too. You will find a new home or homes for all your wonderful creations, Karin, and I am sure it will be awesome.
Love and blessing on you tonight...off to the land of dreams for me...

  4. Another piece of beautiful art from you, lady!

You know, some of your works would come up so well as prints. I'm sure there's people around like me who'd love to buy them if they were available.

Anyway, thank you for all the glorious art you share with us here!

  8. I love your books, it's as if you don't use writing to tell us how you feel, rather art. I want to try this, but I wont be nearly as good as you.

  9. I love the colors as always but at the risk of sounding silly what is a dedicated mandala journal

  10. It does feel different to work a bit larger Kim - but the difference is really good! Plus it's easier to not have that division from the binding in the middle of my images. I'm itching to work even larger - I have a nice big piece of paper gessoed and waiting :) I hope your night was filed with sweet dreams. xo

Ha - that's funny Jay. I wish I could remember which restaurant it came from - I have a rather large collection that I periodically pull from - just reach and read. I discard the ones that don't offer something useful, so I'm guaranteed a good 'reading' when I do pick!

Yes, fortune cookies are fun to play with, aren't they Val!? Thanks!

thank you my friend! There are a number of ways I would like to make my artwork more available in the future Svasti, and prints would be a really good one. I need to do some research on that, and once my health issues are taking up less of my focus, I will work more directly on that! I appreciate your desire to have my art as a presence in your world!!

Your welcome Alexi - thanks for your appreciation.

Thanks Robyn - I was able to draw the feet by sitting my laptop in front of me and taking a picture of my legs crossed, sitting in that position! It helps a lot to have something to work directly from :)

Thanks Cat - yeah, it's my natural inclination to have multiple sketch books and/or journals going at once, which is what I've always done in the past, but I found a great deal of value in disciplining myself with the one journal. It felt more like a formal practice - like morning prayers, daily meditation, etc. There was something in that, which I can't put into words, which made the process even more powerful, more sacred.

That is really what I hope to do Angie - thank you. I am glad that is how you "read" my art! And I disagree - I can't do it better than you, as long as you are creating your story, with your true voice, it will be your perfectly told and created story! I may have a skill set that is different than yours, but if you look at my earliest pages, you'll see that is was in this daily practice that I grew and developed my skills and style! I never considered myself a painter, just 2 years ago - now I can say that I am a painter! Daily practice really helps those skills develop!!

Hi Cheryl - no questions are silly. What I meant was I'd like to have a journal that will be dedicated solely to my creating of mandalas. For anyone unfamiliar with what a mandala is, you can see some examples of mine here, while wikipedia defines it, in part, like this:
"a concentric diagram having spiritual and ritual significance in both Buddhism and Hinduism...."essence" + "having" or "containing", also translates as "circle-circumference" or "completion"... its symbolic nature can help one "to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises." [3] The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as "a representation of the unconscious self,"[citation needed] and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality." Thanks for asking your question!
